Advice To Survivalists- Consider Relocating to Canada,Part IV: The Regions

Authored By J Vanne.

The Maritime Provinces – Newfoundland, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia

The maritime provinces – Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia – are generally regarded as a region that has chronic unemployment , and in one sense, is almost “the land that time forgot,”  in that much of the economic development that has gone on in Canada moved west for various reasons.  However, where there are issues like this, there may be opportunity for you. This article will explore those possible opportunities.

Newfoundland

If you consider this province, first attend the Newfoundland 101 class: the province may be pronounced by an emphasis on either the first or last syllable – never the middle one.  Newfoundland joined Canada only in 1949, after some brief toying with the possibility of joining the US. One key economic item is the Hibernia oil field off the coast, which is a plus for economic stability, but generally Newfoundland is a (Read more....)

Advice To Survivalists- Consider Relocating to Canada, Part IIII: Central Canada: Ontario

Guest Author-  J Vanne

In this article, I continue to look at Canada as a relocation possibility. This time, we examine Ontario, known as Upper Canada (as in “up” the St. Lawrence River) in olden days. We will not examine “Lower Canada” – Quebec – as in my opinion, anyone relocating to Quebec, known as La Belle Province (The Beautiful Province), to avoid an economic or societal meltdown may as well also look at Greece, Spain or Argentina. Yes, Montreal is a fun city, and there are indeed areas, such as the eastern townships (for example the area around Sherbrooke, Quebec) that are similar to Vermont in terms of agricultural activities. However, Quebec has serious issues. Yes, the separatist movement has died down, as the “pure laines” (the pure blood French) have aborted themselves into oblivion, and immigrants know their collective gooses would be cooked in an independent Canada. They are also aware that Quebec, which has a population of around 8 million – not all of which are francophones – exists in a sea of just under 400 million in North America (if (Read more....)

Advice To Survivalists- Consider Relocating to Canada, Part II: The Regions

British Columbia

The goal of examining different Canadian regions for you is two-fold:  a.) to look at regions that might be a good locale in a slow, grinding economic downturn, and b.) examine areas the might be suitable for a more serious societal and/or economic breakdown (the so-called “zombie apocalypse”). In other words, the scope of this article is to try to find areas that will be acceptable if the powers that be are able to somewhat “kick the economic can down the road” for a few more years, while at the same time providing information for your consideration in the event of a much more serious apocalypse of various flavours. This means the article will attempt to find a sweet spot on the one hand between having  a location with business, cultural and educational opportunities, a reasonably sized air hub so one can conduct business and family (Read more....)

Advice To Survivalists- Consider Relocating to Canada, Part 1

Authored By J. Vanne

Many of you have read all about relocating to places like Belize, Pago-Pago  – or perhaps even the Kerguelen Islands if you really want to get away (extra credit for those who can even find the Kerguelen Islands on a world map without googling it!). There may or may not be some merit a number of relocation  countries, and no doubt some readers here have already done research in that regard. No doubt, there is a wide range of countries with a wide range of advantages and disadvantages.  My goal is not to dissuade you from some place warm and sunny, but rather ensure you have considered the full panoply of possible options – including Canada.

Many of the countries people are examining come with large question marks – such as, for one example,  Costa Rica, which has a large cadre of committed leftists in leadership, even if they are not currently a formally Communist country.  Mexico? Would you really feel safe in an almost-failed country during an economic or grid meltdown?  Will you fit in culturally, and how well have you mastered the language? There (Read more....)

Advice To The Would Be Survivalist

by SurvivingSurvivalism.com

Nine out of  ten people we’ve met who expressed an interest in being a survivalist or prepper,  frankly, did not know their own mind.  Like at the poker table, to win you must either be all in, or don’t bother playing.  You can’t get to home plate if you keep one foot on third base.

Often the problem comes in not with someone’s own head, but with the heads of people they are attached to –  wives, children, mothers, fathers, pets, friends, bosses, mild acquaintances. We could recount endlessly the amount of times we met people who were conflicted by others, who vainly labored at – or sought others to labor at – convincing their son, daughter, dog, cat, minster, rabbi, imam, boss, wife, husband that they should join in the bug-out.

Truth is, everyone of the aforementioned entities has a strong vested interest in keeping you in the system. It is like asking a butcher if it’s good to eat meat. If you discuss with people your desire to drop out of society –  those (Read more....)

“Get a Job”- The Every Day Reality Of Off The Grid Living

by SurvivingSurvivalism.com

Our commitment to living the survivalist lifestyle includes living so far off the beaten path as to make a daily commute to work impractical to say the least.  And so, in monetary terms, we have been living on just a few hundred dollars a year.  Someone, not understanding the essence of  survivalism, suggested recently that we “get a job.”  For their sake, as well as anyone else out there who thinks that living a survivalist life means transferring your suburban life to another location, here is my job description and “payment”:

1. Collect firewood  – Much of this is done by dragging fallen and standing dead pinion, cedar and juniper trees, later to be cut into correct sizes for the wood cook stove and the wood heating stove.

That replaces our gas bill.

2. Keep the storage batteries full of water and check connections to the solar panels.

That replaces our electric bill.

3. Do the laundry by the (Read more....)

The message From Congress Is Clear: Quit Work, Go on welfare!

(Guest Article by Dave Webb)

The following is from an article in the Dayton Daily News in Ohio. Anyone who is not alarmed by this quote needs to be. It effects everyone. “A typical middle-income family making $40,000 to $64,000 a year could see its taxes go up by $2,000 in 2013 if lawmakers fail to renew a lengthy roster of tax cuts set to expire at the end of 2012, according to a new report Monday, Oct. 1, 2012. Taxpayers across the income spectrum would be hit with large tax hikes, the Tax Policy Center said in its study, with households in the top 1 percent income range seeing an average tax increase of more than $120,000, while a family making between $110,000 to $140,000 could see a tax hike in the $6,000 range.” Normally I would not quote anyone from the wire services. If there is ever a Pravda(Moscow newspaper) in the United States, surely this is it. This one got through the editors. I don’t know why but it did. The FED is busy printing money. They do not have time to comfort us. The new idea which is very old is to make our money worthless. This encourages unions and everyone else to re-negotiate wages every year. Obviously if everything is inflating at say 10% per year(Off the wall (Read more....)
