When you are wanting to learn how to survive in the wild, there are some television shows that can help to teach you various survival techniques. By watching these types of shows you can gain a general understanding of what it could take mentally and physically should you find yourself in a survival-type situation. They teach you all sorts of skills, from fire-building to which is best to use, 9mm ammo or buck shot. Additionally, the shows provide information about food survival skills and food storage. The television shows feature rugged hosts including Bear Grylls, Cody Lundin, and Joseph Teti. The skills you learn are basic skills for surviving and different scenarios are played out for you to observe throughout the shows.
On a few of these shows there are disclaimers informing the viewers of the fact that some situations are set up by the producers to the hosts to further inform the viewer of a handy survival tactic. This list contains some of the better and more informative of the survival shows.

Typhoons, earthquakes, floods, and a host of man-made disasters are a regular thing nowadays. Our lack of empathy for the environment, as well as each other, has facilitated an increasingly dangerous world for us.
In many of these situations, there really is no recourse but to evacuate from the affected area. For those who are fortunate enough to have their own home, and have enough space in their garage or yard to accommodate another vehicle, my suggestion is to have an emergency vehicle that is equipped to handle emergencies of various kinds.
This vehicle need not be expensive. A second-hand van or station wagon with the proper accessories and add-ons will more than do. A neighborhood association can pitch in to maintain and add the necessary upgrades to the van; services like American Van Equipment can provide the proper parts and installation at affordable rates.

A little preemptive planning turns car trouble from your worst nightmare to a minor inconvenience. If your vehicle blows a tire, runs out of gas or loses a battery charge, don’t panic. There are simple steps you can take to keep your car alive, on the road and away from the curb.
Roadside Assistance
If your car is new or you purchased an extended warranty or service plan, it probably included some type of roadside assistance. That typically consists of services like towing, battery and tire replacements, lockout assistance and so on. If your car is older or out of warranty, there are a few places you can still sign up for service. Most insurance companies offer it as an add-on to your coverage, but make sure you know exactly what you’re paying for since each company varies in offering.
Another option is a company like AAA. For $55 per year, they offer the same services and partner with different service centers across the country, making costs a bit lower if you need to have work done once you’re towed there. If you prefer your new wheels to come from other retailers such as Continental tires, AAA will still (Read more....) […]
Most Americans honestly do not know how to survive if they suddenly couldn’t run down to Wal-Mart and fill up their shopping carts. The truth is that we live during times when a disaster or an emergency could strike at any time. It is important to be prepared, and nobody is going to prepare for you.
The following is a list of 11 key items that you will want to make sure that you and your family have in case you are faced with an emergency situation…..
#1) Storable Food
Most Americans cannot conceive of a world where you can’t just run out to McDonald’s or to the supermarket and get all the food you want. However, if you are trapped in your home during an emergency for an extended period of time, you and your family are going to need food. Even if you plan to grow food you better have a substantial amount of storable food put away.
#2) Clean Water
Most people could make it for a number of weeks without food, but without water you will die in a matter of days. You and your family are going to need clean water. Is there an abundant supply of water near your home? Will you (Read more....) […]
Do you believe that it is possible to live on twenty percent of the income that you make right now?
If your boss suddenly took away 80 percent of your current salary, how would you feel?
Would you and your family be able to survive?
Well, the truth is that with the right planning it is not only possible, but you can actually enjoy a better life on a drastically reduced income. One inspiring couple we read about recently went from living on $42,000 a year to only $6,500 a year and they not only lived to tell about it – they are thriving.
How is that possible?
It is only possible if you are willing to dramatically reduce your expenses.
Considering the state of the economy and the incredibly bleak economic outlook in 2009, perhaps we can all learn some lessons from them.
If you want to live on such a drastically reduced income, here are some key tips…..
#1) Move to the country.
Living in the city is exceedingly expensive. Land and housing are much cheaper out in the country (and the air is much cleaner out there as (Read more....) […]
In parts one and two of this series we talked about food and water, but in part three we will discuss how you can prepare your home for emergency or disaster.
Below we have compiled a list of items that you will want to have in your home in case disaster or emergency strikes. It is not a comprehensive list, but if you will follow this checklist, it will give you a huge head start in getting prepared for an emergency.
Before we actually get to the list, we want to cover something that we discussed in our article on hurricane preparation. It is an element of preparation that most people overlook – making sure that your most important papers and documents are safe and secure.
During Hurricane Katrina, many people lost their important documents because the Hurricane absolutely soaked and destroyed them. So, make copies of your most important papers and documents and keep them in a waterproof container. In addition, we would suggest keeping that waterproof container in a safe if possible.
Important documents that you will want to safeguard include insurance policies, family pictures, deeds, titles, passports, licenses, bank account records (Read more....) […]
One of the keys to surviving any disaster or emergency situation is to ensure that you and your loved ones have an adequate supply of clean drinking water. It is said that the average person needs at least a gallon of clean water per day. The truth is that we all need water not only for drinking but also for food preparation and sanitation.
So, if you and your family are in an emergency situation for a week without being able to leave your home, you will need at least 28 gallons of water for a 4 person family. Also, do not forget about the family pet. Spottie will need a drink too!
So what can you do to prepare for an adequate water supply in the event of a disaster or emergency?
Here are some ideas…..
1) Get A High Quality Water Filter
This is a good idea even in normal times. The truth is that our tap water is full of stuff you don’t even want to know about. However, things can get even worse in an emergency situation.
