Why communicate at all?

And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. John 8:32

For our safety, edification, and survival we need to know what is happening and what to do about it. As the plethora of prepper blogs and forums reveal, preppers have a lot to say—much of it informative, enlightening, and insightful and some of it disinformation, illogical, unmitigated drivel, and even evil. We need to screen the nuggets from the waste. Logic, critical analysis, and a well-formed conscience help us do that.

Even now, before events have hit nadir, we avoid controlled media. At best, mass media is useless; at worst, it is destructive to mind, body, and soul. What mass media provides is not news or information, but diversions, disinformation, outright lies, smut, and hasbara. Thinking people have come to depend upon the “alternative media” of the internet, but, when times get worse, the internet “kill switch” will deprive us of that source. We will be “in the dark” unless we build alternative means and networks. Better to build now than during a crisis. Amateur radio, “ham radio,” is one way to build friendships and networks now, (Read more....)

Swine Flu Survival http://disasterandemergencysurvival.com/archives/swine-flu-survival-guide http://disasterandemergencysurvival.com/archives/swine-flu-survival-guide#comments Sun, 03 May 2009 18:13:30 +0000 http://disasterandemergencysurvival.com/?p=130 12Headlines around the world are screaming about the spread of the swine flu each day. Many people around the world are becoming increasingly frightened and are looking for information for how they can fight this disease.

The truth is that there is no reason to panic. Below we have compiled a comprehensive 5 step swine flu survival guide…..

#1) Wash Your Hands

This sounds very obvious, but you would be surprised how many people do not do it. Washing your hands is the number one tip that experts typically offer when asked to give tips on how to prevent the spread of disease.

The truth is that disease is spread by the hands almost more than by any other method. It is a very good idea to wash your hands several times a day – especially whenever you have returned from being in a public place.

One key thing to remember is that disease can be passed from doorknobs and handles. After touching a doorknob or handle you will want to definitely wash your hands.

If you keep your hands clean that will go a long way in helping you to avoid disease.

#2) Avoid Public Places

If you do not have the swine flu already, how are you going (Read more....)

The truth is that we live during times when a disaster or an emergency could strike at any time.  It is important to be prepared, and nobody is going to prepare for you.

The following is a list of 11 key items that you will want to make sure that you and your family have in case you are faced with an emergency situation…..

#1) Storable Food

Most Americans cannot conceive of a world where you can’t just run out to McDonald’s or to the supermarket and get all the food you want. However, if you are trapped in your home during an emergency for an extended period of time, you and your family are going to need food. Even if you plan to grow food you better have a substantial amount of storable food put away.

#2) Clean Water

Most people could make it for a number of weeks without food, but without water you will die in a matter of days. You and your family are going to need clean water. Is there an abundant supply of water near your home? Will you (Read more....)

Below we have compiled a list of items that you will want to have in your home in case disaster or emergency strikes.  It is not a comprehensive list, but if you will follow this checklist, it will give you a huge head start in getting prepared for an emergency.

Before we actually get to the list, we want to cover something that we discussed in our article on hurricane preparation.  It is an element of preparation that most people overlook – making sure that your most important papers and documents are safe and secure.

During Hurricane Katrina, many people lost their important documents because the Hurricane absolutely soaked and destroyed them. So, make copies of your most important papers and documents and keep them in a waterproof container.  In addition, we would suggest keeping that waterproof container in a safe if possible.

Important documents that you will want to safeguard include insurance policies, family pictures, deeds, titles, passports, licenses, bank account records (Read more....)
