What a winter it has been for the east coast already - and yet it is not over. In fact, some computer models are calling for up to 2 feet of snow to hit the mid-Atlantic region this upcoming weekend. Yes, you read that right. 2 feet of snow. At least that is what the sophisticated computer models that Foot's Forecast relies upon are calling for. So far, the NBC affiliate in Washington D.C. is being far more conservative and is only projecting 6 to 12 inches of snow at this point. But the truth is that they are always very conservative with their estimates 48 hours before a storm hits because they do not want to alarm anyone. In fact, prior to the massive winter storm that hit the east coast in December, local news affiliates in the Washington/Baltimore area were only calling for a moderate amount of snow at first. Haiti has become yet another example (just like New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina) of how when society breaks down, evil comes out to play. We have all seen pictures or video footage of the machete-wielding gangs and looters that have been ravaging Port-au-Prince since the earthquake. If not for the U.S. and U.N. troops that have been inserted into Haiti, the whole nation would be an utter madhouse at this point. But the point of this article is not to dump on Haiti. The truth is that we have seen this kind of thing all over the world when society breaks down. After all, have we forgotten the horrors in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina so quickly? The thin veneer of civilization that we all take for granted every day only exists as long as society continues to function normally. Once society breaks down, the truth is that the evil in humanity surfaces very quickly. When humans feel their very survival is threatened, many of them will resort to all kinds of things. 
The 7.0 magnitude earthquake that hit Haiti is being called the worst natural disaster in at least a decade. In fact, U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki Moon is already calling it a worse disaster than the Asian tsunami of several years ago that killed so many thousands upon thousands of people. Authorities are desperately trying to get aid to the survivors in Haiti but they are being severely hampered 
One of the great debates among survivalists is regarding the value of gold. One the one hand, gold is one of the few things that will hold its value when the U.S. dollar collapses. On the other hand, you can't eat or drink gold. That is the position that the maker of the film posted below takes. He advocates focusing on the things that you will actually need: food, water, shelter and protection. But is he being overly dramatic? If so, what kind of future should we all be preparing for? The massive winter snow storm that has hit the Washington D.C. area is truly historic in nature. Some areas have received over 2 feet of snow. The entire Washington D.C. area has been paralyzed as the snow continues to accumulate. Without a doubt this is the biggest snow storm of the decade for the mid-Atlantic region. While other areas of the U.S. are accustomed to getting large amounts of snow, the truth is that a blizzard of this magnitude is completely crippling for those who live around Washington D.C. There have been over 4000 traffic accidents in Virginia alone due to this massive snow storm. Hundreds of cars are totally stuck or abandoned.
