***The following is a guest post for Survival by Fred Rasmussen*** My recent activism comes from a concern that the freedoms granted by our constitution are being eroded away by the greed, corruption, and disloyalty of our political system. Instead of government being our servant, they are clearly trying to become our master. In fact they already have, but not by authority that is rightfully theirs. So in the meantime, what can a person do for his own personal freedom? I have some ideas about this. But it isn't as much a political matter as an economic one. It's an urgent matter of survival. Suppose the victims of hurricane Katrina could have known six months in advance that the disaster was coming. Certainly many would scoff, others might want to prepare for it but not know how. Still others might make drastic changes in preparation, asking themselves tough questions, like "what would I do for clean water?", "what about food?" (Read more....)
****Today we have a guest post by Barbara Fix. She is an outstanding writer and I think that you are really going to enjoy what she has to share with us below. We encourage everyone to visit Barbara at Survival Diva Blog http://www.survivaldiva.com/.**** We are all aware of escalating food prices, but what's driving the shortages and the price hikes? The answer is multifaceted: global political unrest, inflation, weather anomalies, the nuclear incident in Japan and the rising price of oil that increases the cost of planting, harvesting and transportation have all played their part. The following is a guest post by Dennis Evers, the author of an upcoming book entitled "How to Handle a Crisis". In this article, Evers gives us some basic disaster and emergency survival tips that all Americans should be putting into practice but are not. Unfortunately, the vast majority of Americans always leave things until the last minute. But unfortunately, in the economic hard times that are coming "preparing at the last minute" is just not going to cut it. Right now Americans need to be storing up food, medical supplies and emergency equipment. There are millions of Americans that have become "preppers" and more are joining the movement every day. Hopefully what Evers has to say will inspire all of us to ramp up our preparations for the hard times that are coming.... (Read more....)
Please be warned - the statistics about the economy that you are about to read are likely to completely blow your mind. The U.S. economy is in far, far more trouble than the mainstream news would have you believe. Most Americans are still convinced that the economic downturn that we have been experiencing will soon be over and that things will shortly get back to "normal". But that is not what is happening. What we are actually witnessing is the disintegration of the foundations of the U.S. economic system. The survival of the American middle class is now in serious jeopardy. In fact, the survival of the American way of life is now in serious jeopardy. Today, more Americans are living in poverty than at any other time in history. Millions upon millions of Americans are out of work and it now takes the average unemployed worker an average of over 35 weeks to find a job. Home sales are at near record lows. Home foreclosures are at record highs. Factories and jobs continue to leave the United States at a dizzying pace and the U.S. government has piled up the biggest mountain of debt in the history of the world with no end in sight. So yes, the U.S. economy is in a deep, deep state of crisis, and there is not much hope that things are going to get much better any time soon. (Read more....)
The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is the worst environmental disaster in all of U.S. history. It has caused hundreds of millions of dollars in damage (at least) and it has permanently altered the Gulf of Mexico for the remainder of our lifetimes. The loss of wildlife and habitats is incalculable. The survival of hundreds of species is now in question. This is a national nightmare that is going to stay with us for decades. It would be incredibly difficult to understate the scope of this tragedy. Let us hope that authorities can find a way to keep this kind of massive oil spill from ever happening again. (Read more....)
According to the executive director of Physician Hospitals of America, more than 60 doctor-owned hospitals across the country that were in the development stage will now be canceled. Why? Well, it is because of the new health care law that Barack Obama and the Democrats wanted so badly. Apparently the new law singles out physician-owned hospitals, making new physician-owned projects ineligible to receive payments for Medicare and Medicaid patients. Without those payments, new doctor-owned hospitals just simply would not be feasible. Doctor-owned hospitals that currently exist will be "grandfathered" in under the new law, but must seek permission from the Department of Health and Human Services to expand. (Read more....)
Is global warming a serious threat to humanity or is it just a massive hoax? Should we be seriously concerned about climate change, or is climate change something that has always happened throughout history? Is mankind causing changes to the climate, or has the climate data been falsified to promote certain agendas? These are vitally important questions. Politicians all over the globe are making fundamental decisions regarding the future of humanity based on their beliefs about global warming and climate change. A number of our readers have expressed very strong opinions about global warming and climate change recently, and we wanted to share their comments with you. Some of them are very much in favor of the theory that humanity is causing catastrophic global warming, and others are very much against this theory. We thought that we would post comments from our readers on both sides of the debate. The truth is out there, and hopefully if we are all willing to learn from each other we can find it. Reports that 2 to 3 feet of snow would hit the mid-Atlantic region created a panic buying atmosphere at Washington D.C. area supermarkets prior to last weekend's blizzard. Shelves were picked clean of meat, fruit and other essentials. The thought of having to go a couple of days without going to the store caused some Washingtonians to go into a frenzy. So what would happen if a real crisis came, and once the supermarkets were out of food they could not get any more? How crazed would people get then? The Washington D.C. blizzard of 2010 has been dubbed the "snowpocalypse", but honestly it wasn't that bad. Sure it was inconvenient and thousands of people lost power, but it was not a major disaster by any stretch of the imagination. (Read more....)
